Research Opportunity Seed Fund

An internal fund accessible through Faculty Members of our Institute, the objective of our Research Opportunity Seed Fund (ROSF) is to seed activities that well lead to subsequent applications for large, significant research funding at Ingenuity Labs. This program is intended to foster the development of new research partnerships between Ingenuity Labs members and at least one industrial partner by supporting collaborative short-term research and development projects that fall within and advance our mandate.

A maximum grant of $25,000 over a period of 1 year can be awarded to support eligible research project costs.

At minimum, an in-kind contribution from an industry partner reflecting the partner’s active commitment to the project is required. A detailed description of the industry contribution must be provided and must indicated how the total value of each contribution item was determined. In-kind contribution of the industry partner, including salary costs, must follow the guidelines for NSERC guidelines eligibility and value of in-kind contributions described on the NSERC policy for organizations participating in research partnerships.

Non-profit organizations or municipal governments (e.g., City of Kingston) may be considered as industry partners if they are to make critical material in-kind contributions to the project in the form of access to data, equipment, or civil infrastructure.
